Residential Collection

Residential garbage service is provided using automated collection trucks one time per week. Garbage must be in an approved container that is compatible with the automated system. A cart can be purchased from the Town of Greeneville Recorder’s office at 200 N. College Street for $100.00. The carts are 95 gallons in size, which should easily hold your weekly garbage, and are guaranteed for 10 years.

Only household garbage in plastic bags is to be placed in the carts.

Do not place any of the following in the carts:

  • dirt

  • sod

  • rock

  • grass clippings

  • leaves

  • flammable materials such as gas, oil, paint, hot ashes or coals

  • debris from construction, demolition or remodeling

  • concrete

  • carpet and padding

If you are unsure of an item, please call the Public Works Department at 423-638-6152. Plastic bags and unapproved containers will not be serviced. The carts should be placed at the edge of the road and have a clearance of at least five feet.

For the elderly and disabled, the Town offers back door service at no charge. To set up this service, call the Public Works Department.

Appliances, furniture, and bulky items will be picked up on a per call basis to the Public Works Department. Frequent and excessive amounts of furniture and appliances will result in a fee charged as set by the Public Works Director.

Residential garbage is collected Monday through Thursday beginning at 5:45 a.m. To ensure that your garbage is collected on its designated day, please have your can out before 5:45 a.m.

Commercial Collection

Commercial garbage service is provided utilizing carts, 4 and 8 yard dumpsters, compactors, and roll-off containers. Service can be provided one to five days per week depending on your needs. There is a charge for commercial collection and the price depends on the size of the container and the number of times the container is serviced each week.

In order to arrange for commercial collection, a service agreement will have to be completed. Please click the button below for the contract.

Roll-off container sizes of 10, 15, 20, 30, and 40 yards can be rented on a temporary basis. There is a rental (daily or monthly) and pull charge that is based on the size of the container and the location of the container (inside or outside the city limits).

A service agreement will also have to be completed for this service. For the rental of roll-off containers on a temporary basis a prepayment of one month’s rent, one pull charge and one ton of disposal charge is required. Any additional charges over the prepayment will be billed. Disposal charges at the transfer station and demolition landfill are charged separately.
