Jointly, Greeneville and Greene County own the transfer station and the Class III/IV Demolition landfill. Solid Waste collected by the Town of Greeneville and at Greene County’s Convenience Centers and by private haulers is brought to the transfer station and loaded into trailers and transported to GFL landfill in Hamblen County for disposal. Construction and demolition waste are disposed of in the Class III/IV landfill. No household or commercial garbage can be disposed of in the Class III/IV landfill. The transfer station and the landfill are regulated by the State of Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation. Hours of operation are 7:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Gate rate charges for disposal of garbage going to the transfer station are $60 per ton with a minimum of $45.00. Gate rates for the Class III/IV landfill are $40 per ton with a minimum of $30.00.
