Chief of Police
Chief Steve Spano graduated from Greeneville High School in 1989 and earned an Associate's Degree from Walter's State Community College in Criminal Justice. Chief Spano joined the Greeneville Auxiliary Police Department in 1994 and was hired full-time by the City of Tusculum Police Department in 1995. Captain Spano returned to the Greeneville Police Department in 1997 when he was hired as a full-time patrol officer. He has served as a Patrol Officer, Patrol Sergeant, Patrol Lieutenant, and Captain. During his years of service with our department, Chief Spano was a member of the department's Special Response Team (S.R.T.) for twenty-one years. For two of those years, he was the Commander of the Team. He was a K-9 officer for twelve years and led that unit for several years. Chief Spano was also assigned to the Third Judicial District Drug Task Force for two years. He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee Municipal Technical Advisory Service's Municipal Management Academy sections 1 & 2 and the Tennessee Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar (TLEEDS). Chief Spano was appointed to be the Chief of the department on May 30, 2023. Email Steve Spano
